The Greek Island of Samos basks in the beautiful blue waters of the Aegean Sea and it is an unspoilt retreat of beauty, where you can enjoy quiet tranquility just a bit of the normal mainstream holiday track.
Samos is famous for stunning scenery but also did you know that one of the islands most famous sons is the mathematician Pythagoras ! This Greek island is fringed with with glorious beaches of white sand and pebbles. There are fertile valleys which are blanketed in vineyards, olive groves and citrus orchards, whilst tranquil monastries and hidden caves are perched on pine clad moutain slopes, which are sheltered by craggy mountain peaks. In our opinion Samos is one of the most beautiful Greek islands !
Along the south coast of Samos sandy beaches with shallow water are well suited for families with children and include quiet spots such as Psili Amos. Further along the coast in the south west part there are remote beaches like Limionas, Makria Pounta and Aghios Yiannis, some of which are accessible on foot or by boat trips from Pythagorion.
Places to visit on Samos includethe pretty mountain village of Manolates, Vourliotes and Starvindes. The villages have traditional streets lined with white-washed houses, arts crafts and pottery shops as well as shady tavernas. This is the real Greece where the way of life has been unchanged for centuries.
Just across the sea from Samos lies Turkey. From Pythagorian or Samos Town it is about a one hour boat trip to Kusadasi, which is the gateway to the spectacular roman romains of Ephesus, one of the Mediterraneans best preserved classical sites.

Samos Town
The capital of Samos is Samos Town, which is on the north coast of the island. Above the busy port and main square its sleepy old town of narrow twisting alleyways and traditional Greek houses is still known as Vathy revealing rich veins of the islands ancient history in the Archaeological and Byzantine Museums. Samos Town offers the main shopping on the island and is also the hub of the bus network, so it makes a great base for a walking holiday.
